In July, visit a snowy Swiss winter village without leaving the city – Canberra Centre’s Winter Village will literally make it snow from July 1-17.
Did we mention there are schnapps and s’mores?
Located downtown at the entrance to the City Walk, the village will bring a cozy Swiss mountain town to life and create a winter wonderland for kids and adults alike, just in time for the school holidays.
It will host a range of workshops, activations and activities for all ages, including mulled wine infused with Gewürzhaus spices and gourmet Swiss chocolate s’mores, Swiss cheese tasting, gingerbread decorating, candle and wreath making, and more!
The activation will consist of alpine trees decorated with Christmas lights, cozy fireplaces, photo opportunities in the winter village and real snow. There will also be an incredible virtual reality experience that will immediately transport visitors to the serene environment of the Swiss Alps.
“We are so excited to bring such an enchanting and interactive activation within the Center to life,” said Gary Stewart, Canberra Center’s general manager.
“Whether it’s cozying up with a warm cup of mulled wine, getting lost in the snowy Swiss Alps through our virtual reality experience or making a typical winter wreath or candle, there’s something for all ages.”
“And even more exciting news: Anyone who visits the Winter Village during their time downtown will be entered into the draw to win a Swiss vacation for two, worth $12,000.”
The holiday includes two seats on the famous Winter Magic Train Tour, which travels eight days through Switzerland, including economy airfares. You can participate in the competition via the QR codes that can be seen all over the Winter Village.
The activation ties in with the City Renewal Authority’s Winter in the City experience, which transforms nearby Civic Square into an open-air skating arena from July 1-17.
“It’s no secret that Canberra gets incredibly cold in the winter, so this year we wanted to embrace the cold and bring a little piece of Swiss winter paradise to the heart of Canberra,” said Mr Stewart.
