Army undergoes ‘biggest transformation in 40 years’, says chief of staff

Government Matters’ Mimi Geerges interviewed US Army Chief of Staff General James McConville about key priorities, including modernization.

  • “The military is undergoing the biggest transformation in 40 years in my opinion,” McConville said, adding, “I propose that the military needs to transform and modernize every 40 years.”
  • This modernization includes new weapons systems, doctrine, organizations, training and technology, as well as Multi-Domain Task Forces and Security Force Assistance Brigades, he said.
  • The top modernization priority is long-range precision firing, starting with hypersonic missile capabilities, which the military plans to make available to soldiers next year, McConville said. These provide deterrence through very high speeds and a long range.
