You can never fully understand fashion. Luxury brand Balenciaga is trolling the internet for their new ‘Paris Sneaker’ collection. The distressed shoe line consists of 100 pairs of limited edition completely destroyed sneakers.
The new line includes both high tops and mules and is available worldwide for pre-order online. However, the collection had gotten the internet talking for all the wrong reasons. The worn-out sneakers cost between Rs 1.4 lacs (USD 1,850) to Rs 48,279 (USD 625) and most on the internet had stated that the completely destroyed luxury sneakers look as if they were “excavated from an old site or a landfill”.

The sneakers are “a reimagined classic design that interprets mid-century athleticism and timeless casual wear in black, white or red, with a white rubber sole and toecap. It’s finished with distressed canvas and raw edges, giving a pre- worn look affects .” Available in lace-up, high-top or backless styles, the collection is meant to be ‘worn for a lifetime’.
Looking at the sneakers, it’s not clear if they really last a lifetime, but what’s more ironic is the price tag attached to them. Netizens are clearly baffled by the new collection.
The distressed sneakers with the Balencia logo on them will be available worldwide through their website. It is already available in European markets. The stores in the United States and the Middle East will have the collection on May 16 and Japan on May 23.
