COVID in WA: State records 8,747 new cases and one historic death

A WA man in his 60s has died from COVID-19 as the number of daily infections in the state fell to 8,747 cases on Sunday.

The man died on May 3, but his death was not reported to WA Health officials until Saturday.

The latest figures also show that 281 people with COVID-19 were in hospital until 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Eight of those patients were treated in the intensive care unit.

There are currently 55,020 active cases in WA.

On Saturday, a total of 9,389 PCR tests were performed in state-run or private pathology clinics.

Of the 8747 positive cases, 2907 were confirmed by a PCR test.

The remaining 5,840 were self-reported positive rapid antigen tests.

Most cases (7241) were recorded in the Perth metropolitan area.

On Saturday, WA Health reported six historic COVID deaths and 9,243 cases.
