Police confirm fatal accident


The Kelowna RCMP have confirmed a fatality in a crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 97 north of the airport.

A motorcycle collided with a pickup around 3:55 PM at the Old Vernon Road intersection.

The northbound lanes of Hwy 97 are now closed at Airport Way, and northbound traffic is being diverted to Airport Way. The RCMP asks motorists to avoid the area.

Drivers can expect significant delays northbound on Highway 97.

Police are asking any witnesses to come forward or if you have dash cam footage from around the time of this collision to contact the Kelowna RCMP at (250) 762-3300.


At the site of a suspected fatal accident on Highway 97 north of the airport, there is still one lane of traffic in both directions.

Emergency services are now placing privacy barricades at the accident site at the intersection of Old Vernon Road.

The Kelowna RCMP says they will be releasing a release soon.

Multiple callers to the Castanet editorial office said they saw a downed blue sports motorcycle and what appeared to be a body covered in tarpaulin.

While traffic is still moving in one lane, more emergency vehicles are just arriving and a closure is possible.

Northbound traffic is picking up significantly.
