Destiny 2’s Guardian Games will return to the Tower for a third time on May 3. The competition to see which of the three Guardian classes is the second and the third best (it’s a poorly kept secret that Titans are clearly the first) kicks off Tuesday and runs until the end of the season, May 24.
As usual, players will take small quests to earn medals and turn them in to increase their class’s position in the ranks. But this year, Bungie is bringing back a much-requested feature for the duration of the event: Strike Scoring.
Instead of running through the Strikes, players are given special missions to deal as much damage as possible and kill enemies in unique ways. This feature is reflected in two different Strike playlists: Training and Competitive. The workout playlist is active from Tuesday to Thursday every week. The rest of the week, Friday through Monday, players can jump into the Competitive playlist to earn better rewards.
By achieving high scores, players can unlock torches in the tower, giving their Guardian a special glow on their right shoulder. Players can get glow on their left shoulders by handing in medals to help their class win. For their effort, players will earn the new “The Title” submachine gun, which comes with a special Origin perk called Classy Contender (kills restitution class skill energy).
Bungie is also making minor adjustments to the weighting of medal deposits for the event – due to the discrepancy in the player population between classes. Classes that fall behind and come in second or third will receive proportional multipliers for the rest of the event. This also takes data from last season into account, meaning Titans (who finished third last year despite winning in 2020) get the biggest boost. Warlocks get a little boost to finish second, and Hunters get very little boost since winning in 2021.
Finally, Bungie announced that an exciting loot is coming Destiny 2 on May 24 with the new season. The seasonal ritual weapon is a machine gun called Chain of Command. Players can also earn Nightfalls’ Horror’s Least pulse rifle, as well as the much-loved DFA hand cannon. Trials of Osiris gets the Forgiveness sidearm and the Burden of Guilt fusion rifle.
But before players can get their hands on those new weapons, they must take up the gauntlet in the Guardian games of 2022. May the best class win.
