Instagram’s brand revamp brings new font and “new energy”

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been 11 years since Instagram first took off. A lot has changed since that time. The app has become much more than just a place to share photos. After a radical logo change in 2016, the company is evolving again. Today, Instagram announced it was bringing “new energy” by providing a visual refresh that spans multiple facets of its brand.

Change of Instagram logo with new moving components to make it look more lifelike

Instagram continued, “Our new system is designed to embrace ongoing evolution to help us create more immersive and inclusive experiences for our community.” The divisive gradient logo that debuted in 2016 has been upgraded. The logo now features radiant colors making it “feeling illuminated and vibrant”. Instagram states that this update was made to “signal moments of discovery”.

Instagram Sans offer in different languages

Along with the updated logo, the brand also debuted its new font. Instagram Without. The new font will be used across the brand and across other media formats, such as advertising campaigns. The new font is designed “with our heritage in mind and includes multiple global scripts”. The font will also be visible in the app itself, allowing creators to share in Stories and Roles. Instagram Sans is not only available in English and also applied to worldwide languages. You can see some examples of the font in action in the image above.

From a usability point of view, of course, this isn’t much of an improvement. But for those who like to see small changes along the way, this will be huge. Of course, Instagram made some big changes over the month, improving the DM features, expanding the product tagging feature to those in the US, and adding fundraising in Reels. These are just a few of the changes that have happened recently and many more are in the pipeline.
