A man has been shot dead by police after he refused to drop his weapon during a siege in Ipswich, west of Brisbane.
Queensland Police said they were called to Earnest Street in One Mile around 11am following reports of a man holding a firearm.
At about noon, a declaration of emergency was issued under the Public Safety Preservation Act, ordering residents of Earnest Street and Woodford Street to stay indoors.
The report was withdrawn around 2 p.m.
Police say the man was shot after he left the property while holding the weapon and refusing to put it down.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Dave Cuskelly will speak to the media about the incident at 4 p.m.
