Manchester United failed in attempt to hijack Karim Adeyemi’s move to Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United ‘failed in attempt to hijack Karim Adeyemi’s move to Borussia Dortmund’ as Red Bull Salzburg starlet ‘rejected their huge £150,000-a-week contract offer’

  • Red Bull Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi queues up to go to Borussia Dortmund
  • Man United have reportedly tried to persuade the German star to join them
  • The Red Devils are believed to have offered Adeyemi around £150,000 a week
  • But the attacker turned it down because he ‘always wanted’ to sign for Dortmund

Manchester United failed in a bid to hijack Borussia Dortmund’s bid to sign Red Bull Salzburg’s Karim Adeyemi, despite offering the Germany international a massive £150,000 a week, reports claim.

The Red Devils will make major changes to their selection when upcoming boss Erik ten Hag leaves Ajax this summer and takes over at Old Trafford. A new attacker will likely be on his target list.

But one player United won’t get through the door is Salzburg star Adeyemi – according to German sports reporter Patrick Berger – who says United ‘tried to hijack’ his move to Dortmund with a ‘top offer’ of £150,000 a week.

The player turned down that huge salary because he ‘always wanted’ to join the German giants at Signal Iduna Park – with his deal to join the Bundesliga set to be finalized in the coming weeks, he claims.

Adeyemi has emerged as one of the top talents in Europe after a stellar season in which he scored 21 goals in all competitions for Salzburg.

Four of them made it to the Champions League and put his talent on the highest podium by scoring against Brondby, Lille and Wolfsburg.

Ten Hag has a shortlist of players he would like to bring to Old Trafford when he officially goes to work during pre-season and is said to have identified three key signings he can rely on to begin his reign.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future in the air, Edinson Cavani poised to leave and Marcus Rashford underperforming, a new striker should be one of his priorities to blast his struggling side back to the top of the table.

It comes just weeks after reports claimed Liverpool were in talks to sign Adeyemi in the race to beat Dortmund with his signature – with Jurgen Klopp looking to replace Divock Origi, who is expected to join AC Milan this summer.

But now German outlet Sport1 believes Dortmund have beaten the Reds to his signature after signing a £32m deal with Salzburg – which would see the player handed a five-year contract.

Dortmund itself is in dire need of a regular goalscorer and star man Erling Haaland is on the cusp of moving to Manchester City.

sports post reported last month that Pep Guardiola’s men will activate the player’s £63million escape clause and pay him £500,000 a week, which would make him the highest paid star in the Premier League.
