Mike Hagerty dies: ‘Friends’ actor who plays Mr. Treeger played dead at age 67

Character actor Mike Hagerty, who most recently starred opposite Bridget Everett in the HBO comedy someone, somewherepassed away at the age of 67. A cause of death has not been disclosed.

“It is with great sadness that the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his passing in Los Angeles yesterday,” Everett shared on Instagram on Friday. “A beloved actor, his love for his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life. Mike, a devoted husband, is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty [and] her wife Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg. He will be sorely missed.”

In a second Instagram post, Everett added that she “loved Mike from the moment I met him. He was so special. Warm, funny, never met a stranger. We are devastated that he passed.”

Hagerty is perhaps best known for his recurring role as Mr. Treeger in the NBC comedy friends† In Season 4’s memorable episode “The One With the Ballroom Dancing,” Joey reluctantly agreed to become the Chief Inspector’s dance partner after threatening to evict Monica and Rachel.

Hagerty was a series regular on a few short-lived sitcoms: Fox’s The George Carlin Showwhich aired for two seasons between 1994 and 1995, and HBO’s Lucky Louiewhich ran for one season in 2006. His extensive credit list also includes episodes of Boston Legal, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Cheers, Community, CSI, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, ER, Ghost Whisperer, Glee, The Goldbergs, Grey’s Anatomy, Happy Endings, Medium, The Mindy Project, Mob City, Monk, Seinfeld, Shameless , The Wayans Bros. and the original Wonder years

He most recently played on the aforementioned someone, somewhere as Farmer Ed Miller, father of Everett’s Sam.
