A woman who was awarded a winning Lotto ticket has revealed how she plans to spend the $40 million life-changing Powerball prize.
The woman, from St Albans in Melbourne, selflessly said the money would go “primarily” to help her family, adding that she would “obviously” buy a house and travel abroad.
Speaking to an official at The Lott, the stunned St Albans woman said she was still struggling to cope with the fact that she had become a multimillionaire overnight.
“I am still shocked. I’ve barely slept since I discovered the win,” she said.
“It’s hard to put into words the feeling that you’ve won $40 million. I don’t think it really gets to me yet.

The Powerball jackpot was drawn on Thursday, but the woman did not immediately check her winning ticket because it was gifted to her.
“When I did check, I immediately called my family and they were just as shocked as I was. There was definitely a lot of cheers and tears,” she admitted.
“First of all I will try to help my family and share it with them. However, I need some time to think about what else to do.
“Of course I am going to buy a house and I would like to travel to Japan and the United States. I would like to go anywhere!
“You always wonder what you would do if something like this happened, and now that it’s happened I have no idea what to do.
“It’s such a blessing, but now I really have to sit down and just process it. It’s life-changing, and I just can’t believe it happened to me.
“I’m so grateful.”
Her winning 8-game QuickPick entry was purchased from Sunshine Marketplace Lotto, west of Melbourne’s CBD.
The newsstand’s owner, Yen Le-Mai, said she felt she had hit the $40 million jackpot when she realized one of the winning First Division lottery tickets had been sold in her store.
“I wasn’t aware of it until a friend of mine contacted me to congratulate me on selling the winning ticket,” she said.
“At that moment I felt that I had personally won. I was so excited and overwhelmed by the news.
“I will celebrate this incredible event with balloons and decorations for my store and let all my customers know about this exciting victory.
“It has created such a buzz. All our customers are so happy for us, but especially happy for their fellow customer who won!
“I want to wish the winner all the best for the future. I’m sure they can do whatever they want with their $40 million prize.”
