Rising Food Prices Roil Developing Countries

Rising food prices are fueling shortages and protests in the developing world as the disruption from the war in Ukraine increases existing pressures on global supplies of grains, meat and other foods.

India on Saturday invoked a rare ban on wheat exports to curb domestic prices, a move likely to exacerbate global tensions. The country is the second largest wheat grower in the world after China. At the end of last month, Indonesia stopped exporting certain types of palm oil in an attempt to lower the rising prices of cooking oil domestically.
