Samsung’s radical new Galaxy smartphone is suddenly taking shape

Samsung is leading the way in the next smartphone era, and now new details have leaked out for its most ambitious Galaxy smartphone yet.

Thanks to the dedicated sleuths at GalaxyClub, we now know the battery capacity of Samsung’s industry-leading Galaxy Z Fold 4 (possibly ‘Galaxy Fold 4’) and it tells us something very interesting about how this foldable smartphone range will once again push the boundaries.

GalaxyClub discovered that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have a total battery capacity of 4270 mAh after seeing certifications that Samsung had filed for them in its native South Korea. As with previous Galaxy Fold models, this capacity consists of two batteries – in this case one is 2002 mAh and the other 2268 mAh – and this is almost identical to the total capacity of 4275 mAh of the current Galaxy Z Fold 3. But here’s the clever bit:

Multiple leaks have revealed that Samsung plans to make the Galaxy Z Fold 4 significantly thinner and lighter than its predecessors (as well as change the aspect ratio), so putting in almost identical batteries is very impressive. In comparison, when Samsung downsized the Galaxy S21’s 6.2-inch screen to 6.1-inch for the Galaxy S22, the battery capacity dropped by 10%.

And this is just the beginning. GalaxyClub reports that Samsung has also worked out how to squeeze the Galaxy S22 cameras into the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Previously, cameras were always a weak point for this range.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 4 (possibly minus the ‘Z’ branding, for sensible reasons) alongside the Galaxy [Z] Flip 4 in August. Samsung is already leading the way in the fast-growing foldables sector. Until Apple enters this space (which is years away), expect its dominance to grow thanks to smartphones like this one.
