Ehsani says, “Visceral fat is a body fat that is stored in your abdominal cavity that wraps around your internal organs. It is not the same as the belly fat you may see, visceral fat is actually not visible to the naked eye. Visceral fat can be a negatively impact your overall health by increasing your risk of developing certain conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.”

Ehsani shares: “You can’t measure your visceral fat, but you can measure your waist-to-hip ratio with a tape measure at home to see if you have a high percentage of visceral fat. In women, if you have a waist-to-hip ratio If you have a ratio of 0.85 or higher, you are at greater risk of having visceral fat, and for men, if you have a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.90 or higher, you are at greater risk for it. having a visceral fat ratio also puts you at higher risk of developing chronic conditions or even stroke.”

“Another measurement you can take is simply checking your waist circumference,” says Ehsani. For women, if you have a waist circumference of 35 or above, and for men it is 40 inches or above. If you also get this reading, it’s a sign that you probably have visceral fat.”
