Just a few years after one of Toronto’s most well-known Swiss Chalet locations closed, another location is about to close permanently.
It may not be as central as the ones at Yonge and Gerrard which have closed, but the rotisserie chicken will be missed anyway.
The Swiss Chalet on Overlea is closing this week and there are rumors online about it.
However, the online chatter seems to indicate that while this location was quite large, it may have been in disrepair for a while.
“After a few visits, they decided it was too dirty and in dire need of a renovation. Corporation told me it was scheduled for a full renovation. I think they’ve changed their mind,” one person wrote on Facebook.
Swiss Chalet Overlea,
You almost served me gray meat.
Vegetarian ordered, or is it?
I don’t know.

Someone else wrote on Twitter in 2021 that they got “almost gray flesh” at the location.
Other people on Facebook have replied that the Swiss Chalet location, not far away on O’Connor, is better anyway.
Other people say they don’t like Swiss Chalet restaurants anyway and don’t care if the entire chain closes, pointing out that there are a plethora of other great options in Toronto.
A manager of the Swiss Chalet location who wishes to remain anonymous tells blogTO that the restaurant is closing because the lease has expired, and believes there may have been issues with the landlord and the rent was quite high. They also say that this Swiss chalet will not move any staff.
The manager confirmed that Sunday is the last open day for the Swiss Chalet on Overlea.
