The City of Toronto is accepting applications from local residents and organizations to be part of its new Climate Advisory Group (CAG).
CAG members will act as advisors and champions of climate action and the policies, programs and initiatives being developed for implementation as part of the TransformTO Net Zero strategy. The strategy, approved by the city council, aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the community to zero by 2040. According to a city press release, Toronto’s goal is one of the most ambitious in North America.
Community members with a passion for climate action, climate justice and resilience are encouraged to apply, including representatives of organizations, community leaders, youth and residents of communities experiencing social, economic and other barriers (new entrants, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, indigenous peoples, and individuals with disabilities). a handicap ).
The city believes that achieving Toronto’s climate goals and targets will require meaningful engagement and concerted action from all sectors of the community — public, private, nonprofit and residents — at a scale and pace rarely seen before.
Through the city’s public nomination process, approximately 20 members will be selected for a three-year term. The CAG will meet approximately four times a year, primarily in person, with remote opportunities. The first meeting will be in the fall of 2022. Members can choose to join additional working groups, which set their own meeting schedules. The total time commitment would be 20 to 40 hours per year.
