For one round at UFC 274, it looked like Tony Ferguson was finally ready to return to the victory column, showing some of his classic speed and strength in the standout play. Then seconds into round 2, Ferguson was struck by one of the most violent knockouts in UFC history when Michael Chandler’s foot crashed into his chin, ending the lightweight fight in an instant.

Ferguson opened the fight with some explosive attacks and stepped in with straight punches to counter Chandler’s wild attack. The clean attack caused Chandler to rock twice, forcing him to explode with a double legged takedown to ground the fight and slow things down. Ferguson was aggressive on his back throwing elbows and punches as Chandler tried to do the same from top position. The result of the two-sided ground attack was that both men returned to their corners bloodied and bloodied.

In the second round, Chandler wasted absolutely no time before closing the show. When Ferguson entered, Chandler threw a forward kick that landed right on Ferguson’s chin, knocking Ferguson unconscious to the canvas.

Ferguson remained motionless for several minutes, eventually regaining consciousness and sitting on a stool before being able to stand in the center of the Octagon while Chandler’s hand was raised.

The win was important for Chandler, who had suffered losses to Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje in his two previous fights.

“We didn’t even train that much,” Chandler said of the knockout. “It just happened. He’s so tall and leaves his hands wide and left a job we wanted to throw an uppercut through.”

Following his win, Chandler called out Justin Gaethje for a rematch of their thrilling war, before also calling out UFC superstar Conor McGregor for a welterweight showdown.
